HOW IS CORK FLOORING MADE?
Cork flooring is manufactured from the bark of the cork oak tree which grows primarily in the Mediterranean

The trees’ bark is harvested every 9 years by hand with a special axe

Trees are never cut down for their bark and can live more than 250 years

Almost all cork flooring is made from industrial waste created in the production of wine corks

After corks are punched out, the remaining cork is ground into granules, mixed with a polyurethane binder and baked in ovens

Some products like BOLERO DARK  and COMPACT are homogenous, others like LUSITANIA and NAZARE are created with a patterned cork veneer on a cork base

EASY CLIQ floating floors are made with cork layers on an MDF core. The MDF core is made from waste generated in lumber production and is treated to be water resistant

CAN I USE SOLIDA CORK IN KITCHENS AND BATHROOMS?
Yes! Solida Cork is perfectly suitable for kitchens and bathrooms. We do recommend a site finished product for bathrooms and caulking should be done around the perimeter of the floor

Yes! All Solida Cork glue down and floating floors can be installed over radiant heated floors. Check solidacork.com for more information

CAN CORK FLOORS BE INSTALLED IN BASEMENTS AND ON GRADE CONCRETE FLOORS?  Yes! Solida Cork can be installed on any dry concrete floor, on, above or below grade. A vapour barrier is required in any installation of Easy Cliq

Custom shapes are dependant upon the particular shape and size, call 800-665-5463 for a quote

CAN I GET A COLOUR FROM THE COLOUR PALLET ON A FLOATING FLOOR?
Yes! All of our colours are available on 7 stainable designs in a floating floor plank. The floors require on site finishing with our A2.10 or 2 Part Matte urethane

CAN I GET A PREFINISHED COLOUR ON A SITE FINISH TILE?
Yes, however as the prefinished products are manufactured in a different facility, this is treated as a custom colour (see above)

HOW DOES THE SITE FINISHED PROGRAM WORK?

The three step approach is simplest:

  1-choose the desired shape and
     size of tile
  2-select a cork design
3-pick your colour and finish from
     the colour board

WHAT KIND AND HOW MUCH ADHESIVE AND URETHANE DO I NEED?
We will figure this out for you! You simply detail on your order how many square feet or packs you require of the selected choice, your order will ship with pre-glued tiles, the correct amount of adhesive to coat the floor and urethane for three coats, enough for a residential installation. Commercial applications require two additional coats which can be supplied upon request at an extra cost

WHAT ACCESSORIES ARE SUPPLIED WITH SOLIDA CORK?
ADHESIVE: Solida Cork glue down tiles use a contact adhesive which is supplied. This adhesive is superior to most other suppliers. Tiles arrive pre-glued with one coat, a coat must be applied to the floor using a roller prior to installation, there is no trowling, and you can apply standing up with an available extension handle. After adhesive is dry (about 15-20 minutes) you can walk on as you install. It has an open time of over 24 hours in dust free installations. The tiles bond immediately upon installation and there is no curling or shrinking.

FINISHING: Solida Cork glue down tiles are supplied with sufficient A2.10 urethane for 3 coats site finishing.

Solida Cork offers FUSION PET finish with a 15 YEAR RESIDETIAL/5 YEAR COMMERCIAL WARRANTY on 21 Easy Cliq floating floor designs and 2 glue down designs

FUSION P.E.T. is a radical development in finishing technology utilizing ceramic which is the hardest natural substance known to man after diamond. Tiny ceramic beads are layered with polyurethane for an extremely hard wearing floor
FUSION P.E.T. also provides increased slip resistance and increases UV protection to help prevent floors from fading

WHAT TYPE OF SUBFLOOR DO I NEED FOR SOLIDA GLUE DOWN TILES?
Solida Cork requires a smooth sound subfloor. Mahogany or birch plywood or an engineered product such as Structureboard is all suitable subfloors. All screw holes, joints etc. must be filled with a Portland based filler and sanded smooth

CAN SOLIDA GLUE DOWN TILES BE INSTALLED OVER A CERAMIC TILE, LINOLEUM OR VINYL FLOOR?
Yes but the floor must be smooth. Ceramic tile and embossed surfaces must be skim coated with Portland cement based leveling compound. When completely dry, sand surface to make sure the floor is completely smooth

HOW LONG WILL A SOLIDA CORK FLOOR LAST?
The key to a floors long life is to maintain the finish. A well maintained floor can last for decades. In a typical residential installation the finish will need to be restored in 5-7 years for our polyurethane floors and 15 years or more for our Fusion P.E.T.
